Untitled (Marilyn Modern White) by Death NYC
Artist Proof, Silk-screen print, Signed and Certified

In this vivid iteration of her ongoing engagement with cultural iconography, Death NYC reimagines Marilyn Monroe as an emblem of contemporary visual saturation. Rendered in classic black-and-white with her eyes gently closed and lips softly parted, Monroe becomes a calm center amid an almost kaleidoscopic backdrop, one that playfully collides high fashion, street art, and symbols of emotional nostalgia.

Floating around her are Takashi Murakamiย smiling flowers, butterflies, and dripping Louis Vuitton monograms, visual cues that speak to both joy and excess. They evoke luxury branding, innocence, and a digital-era aesthetic that merges East and West, commerce and culture, surface and meaning. The result is a composition that is less confrontational than it is ironic, buoyant, and meta-reflective.

As with the artistโ€™s other Marilyn works, the red bow, deliberately rough in application, offers a symbolic disruption. It draws our attention to artifice, decoration, and transformation. Likewise, the red paint splash near the top right corner recalls graffiti gestures, suggesting spontaneity within a carefully composed image.

At its core, this piece doesnโ€™t seek to deconstruct Monroeโ€™s image but to layer it with the visual language of now. It is an aesthetic remix, where the enduring softness of Marilynโ€™s persona coexists with bold, contemporary motifs that reflect the image economy of our time. She is surrounded by icons of happiness and desire, yet remains untouched by them.

This is a meditation on beauty, branding, and the enduring power of cultural memory. In the hands of Death NYC, Monroe transcends nostalgia to become a living surface onto which society continues to project its fantasies and contradictions.
